Former selectman Patrick O'Brien says he is 'exploring' run for DA

Cohasset Democrat Patrick O'Brien is considering a run for Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey's job.

O'Brien, a former selectman, confirmed to the Cohasset Anchor that he is "exploring" a bid for the DA's office.

"I'm looking at it," O'Brien said. "I'm talking to people. I'm trying to get a sense of whether it's something I should do."

O'Brien, a Democrat, served on the Cohasset Board of Selectmen for nine years, including two years as chairman.

He is a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School.

O'Brien is a partner at the law firm of O'Brien, O'Brien & Ryan in Quincy.

He is also a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Norfolk County Bar Association.

O'Brien said he is not ready to make a final decision about whether to run for DA.

"I'm still talking to people and trying to get a sense of whether it's something I should do," he said.

The Norfolk District Attorney's office is responsible for prosecuting crimes in Norfolk County.

Morrissey has been the DA since 2011.

He is a Democrat and a former state representative.

Morrissey has not yet announced whether he will seek re-election in 2022.
